The Sentimental Object Library is a project that aims to give the general public the tools to share, learn about, and, interchange sentimental objects. In order to achieve this we need people like you to participate. All you need to do that is a photo of your a Sentimental Object and a short blurb about why it is important. Participating means you can browse, lend and borrow objects and of course the chance to exhibit what’s important to you.

The best place to learn about the project is on the site itself. There are already a few examples up to get you started. So go visit the Sentimental Object Library.
The project stemmed from a research project about Social Units. I chose to concentrate on sharing and different systems that facilitated it. My starting point was three systems that I knew fairly well because I had participated in them, Communism, Co housing and Couchsurfing.
The whole premise behind the project was how can you share things that are very close to you? In the process giving these sentimental objects a new life. The trick was in the process of lending these objects, and giving them a ritualistic sendoff, which is something because of their value, something they deserved.

The bags used to store the objects, the aim was to keep them safe and transport them easily, while showcasing the object and the story. That’s why they are kept plain and simple.

This is the Sentimental Object Library Seal. It is part of the ritual of lending and giving objects. Each lender creates and individual seal when performing the ritual to enter an object in the collection. It makes the whole process much more special.

The Library intends to create exhibitions and swap meets a few times a year, these could be facilitated in existing Libraries, making the whole process a little easier.
